Kumhari was a sub-centre of Charoda Parish and was looked after from Charoda. Fr. Joseph Narikuzhy, while being the parish priest of Charoda, took the initiative to start the centre. In 1980, Kumhari station was chosen as the Diocesan Center for the Social Welfare Activities. Rev. Fr.Thomas Naramvelil was its director and Rev. Fr. Sebastian Poomattam was the Director of Diocesan Adult Education Programme and was the first priest-in-charge of the station. In 1984 Rev. Fr. Joseph Narikuzhy was appointed as the priest-in-incharge. The social service centre has been shifted to a newly built office set up and training centre in Tatiband. Fr Joseph Narikuzhy took the initiative to start an English Medium School there. Later on Fr. Shaji Kunnekadan built the church and presbytery. The credit goes to Fr. Shaji Kunnekadan for the Infant Jesus Shrine at Kumhari which is unique in the Archdiocese.
Sisters of St. Joseph of Lyons have a convent nearby and the regional house as well as the candidates centre is also started here. They also render their services in the parish.
