Jhalap was a sub-station of Pithora untill 1982. Some land was purchased by Rev. Fr. Alexius Kindo. Rev. Fr. John Chittilappilly constructed the priests’ residence. Medical Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi (OSF) has a convent and formation house in this parish. Since 2006 the parish is entrusted to the care of the OCD Fathers. They have also started a School 1 km away in a village. An apostolic school is initiated also on a trial basis by the Fathers.
