On May 15, 1965 the new parish of Mary Queen of the Apostles was erected and Rev. Fr. Mathew Mattapalli was appointed as its first parish priest. A plot of 2.75 acres of land was acquired and in the year 1975 the present parish Church was blessed. The parish has another 20 decimal of land nearby under Nagpur Corporation. There is also a cemetery of half acre land. The parish developed because of the Bhilai steel plant which has its iron ore mine and related activities at Rajhara. It has a substation in Balod which has become district headquarters.

The Assisi Sisters of Mary Immaculate (Green Garden) has two convents here and they render their services in leprosy/T.B control programmes, run a hospital and a higher secondary school. The hospital gives paramedical training for girls.
